David and Elaine surfing at Polzeath
I must have passed my driving test about 1961. My mother said if I passed my test she’d buy a car with the money my father’s brother had left her. It was a second hand Morris Minor. I think it was about £400. My mother loved being in the car and I loved driving. We would drive to Plymouth to have a holiday with my Aunt. I would also go with my sister and some of her family. She had a Wolseley and I would drive it. From Plymouth we would drive to Polzeath. We thought it was lovely so we started going there on holiday. I drove all the way from Plymouth to Edinburgh in a day when I heard about my mother’s death.
