VALUING VOLUNTEERS

This was a day at St Peter's Church hall in Edinburgh to celebrate the work done by many of our volunteers over the past year.

The day also included the official launch of GOGARBURN LIVES - a book of memories and experiences of those who lived and worked in Gogarburn Hospital and of PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE, a video promoting reminiscence & community history work.

It was a very succesfull day all round. Over 100 people attended and enjoyed the wide variety of subjects displayed around the hall.

Stalls were set up showing the work done on the following subjects:

  • The Women's Land Army - Ruth Boreham

  • Newhaven - George Hackland

  • 'Remember When' LGBT project - Ellen Galford

  • Gogarburn Lives Book - Nigel Ingham

  • Past Present and Future Video - Robert Henderson

We also had a stall selling some of our publications, postcards and videos, manned ably by Len Purves and David Donaldson. This made over two hundred pounds for the LMA funds, so thanks to everyone who bought something.

Evelyn Whitfield produced and ran a quiz, with a reminiscence theme, at £1 a go and this made fifty three pounds altogether. Thanks to Evelyn and all who entered ( hope you had some fun doing it too)

A buffet lunch was provided and quickly scoffed by the many people who attended. Grace Melrose looked after the hungry and thirsty visitors, sometimes aided by David Donaldson.

Music was provided most of the afternoon by Victoria Irvine who is also our treasurer.
