On Tuesday 13 January 2004 Living Memory Association was
delighted to host a visit from the Rt. Hon. Estelle M.P., Minister of
State, Department for Culture, Media and Sport. She arrived at 13.45pm,
accompanied by Frank McAveety M.S.P., Minister for Tourism, Culture
and Sport and Colin Maclean, chairman of Heritage Lottery Fund.
L.M.A. staff and a number of volunteers were present for the occasion,
as well as representatives of Sikh Sanjog, the Sikh community project,
based in Leith. Miles Tubb, L.M.A. project leader, welcomed the visitors
and spoke about the work of Living Memory Association. Colin Maclean
talked about the Heritage Lottery awards and a plaque was unveiled on
the door of 101 St. Leonard’s Street, acknowledging the support
given by H.L.F.
Miss Morris said that this was the only community project she had visited
that day and commented on the cosy atmosphere in the premises. She showed
much interest and enthusiasm in the displays of photographs, noticing
in particular the photo of Len Purves, L.M.A. volunteer, playing football
as a boy. She was then introduced to Len who chatted about the photo,
before joining Colin Jubb, L.M.A. technical support, and Norma-Ann Coleman,
volunteer, in showing her the COMMA archive and how it works. Frank
McAveety also showed interest in some sporting photographs, commenting
in particular on the ladies’ football team on display.
The visitors were full of praise for the project and it was felt by
all present that the occasion had gone very well.
